Evaluation on Meccano

Mecanno

Mecanno is probably one of the most unique building kits of it's kind. It's not like your typical Lego or even K'NEX. Mecanno is different, it's made of metal and has many many holes which you can mount to other pieces of Mecanno to create whatever you wish.

Advantages:
  • You can create almost anything you want from itThis is because the company make many different shapes, sized and colours. People have probably made life-sized Meccano such as cars and other things, but this will be very time consuming, and cost a lot of money.

  • Another great thing about Mecanno is its durability. Because it is made out of metal and it is bolted together, it gives it that extra strength when compared to something such as K'NEX or Lego. When built up and everything is bolted together, each part works with another to give it that durably. I little bit like a car chassis for example.

Disadvantages:

  • Mecanno on its own is quite weak, depending on what you make - with little pressure it can be easily damaged, you can even bend a single piece on its own. But it's not designed for anything industrial, it's designed for fun and even to display.

  • Just like anything in big bulk, Mecanno can get expensive quite quickly. It's around £40+ just for a simple vehicle kit. If you want to make something as a big project, then expect to pay a big price.
Conclusion:

Overall I think Meccano is a great idea - you can create so much with it and are able to express so much through it. Although creating something with Meccano can be time consuming, it will be worth it.
